The oil, extracted from the olive tree fruit, is a basic element of the traditional and everyday-basis food of the mediterranean man. Already, the roman breakfast consisted in bread with oil and garlic. Ever since that period of time until today Andalusians repeat the same kind of breakfast.
It is a basic part of the mediterranean diet, so recommended for its health benefits by all scientifics, doctors and investigators. Ideal for fried food as well as for bread dipping and salads and is the base of great number of stews and in the spanish kitchen.
It is oil with curative properties which have been already mentioned in the Old Testament (Bible) when they refer to the lepers purification with olive oil. It was recommended by Hipocrates to cure the ulcer. Also, Plinio who narrates that an old man reached one hundred years of age (the average life spam in that time was 40-50 years of age), thanks to the use of the natural olive juice. English men have always sold olive oil in drugstores (pharmacies).
Its high content of vitamin E, A, D and K, favors the brain development and the nervous peripheral system. It is perfect for baby food preparation due to the similar composition with the maternal milk; it delays the cellular aging and the bone descalcification. It also prevents the mamma cancer, it exercises beneficial effects over: hyperchlorhydric gastritis, gastroduodenum ulcer, chronicle constipation, the cardiovascular system (it diminishes the level of bad cholesterol and it is very important in the fight against arteriosclerosis). Olive Oil´s well balanced chemical composition, along with the quality of being a natural oil, makes it the element that is the most benefitial for the health.
